FAQS

Dental Sticks for dogs

DentalĀ disease is one of the most common health concernsĀ in dogs. With a higher rate than most other common diseases and potentially great health risks to your dog if left untreated it is imperative that we take this seriously. By age 3, 80% of dogs are likely to have gum or dental disease. This may begin withplaque buildupĀ but if left untreated it can lead to periodontitis, gingivitis, and teeth loss.

Ideally, from 6 months old we should brush our dogs' teeth regularly (at least twice a day), but this does not usually happen. Chances are, leftover food and
bacteria start to build until it becomes plaque which may progress to tartar and other conditions mentioned above.

Dental sticks for dogsĀ are made to assist in preventing and reducing plaque and tartar buildup and unwanted dental diseases from forming. We recommend giving your dog Bell & Bone Dental SticksĀ daily for optimal care, helping to reduce the likelihood of bacteria build-up in your dogā€™s
mouth.

How do dental sticks for dogs work?

Dental sticksĀ for dogs are created so that when the dog chews on them,Ā plaque and tartarĀ should be removed from the teeth. There are two ways that this can occur: either from being hard enough to scrape plaque from the surface of the tooth or by activating the ingredients that are scientifically proven to prevent and reduce plaque and tartar buildup.

When aĀ dental stickĀ is just hard and contains no active ingredients only surface level plaque may be removed. This is definitely not the most effective way of caring for your dogā€™s oral health. Most brands of dental sticks unfortunately do not containĀ active ingredientsĀ which may be the reason for high rates of dental disease in dogs.

Bell & Bone Dental SticksĀ are one of the few Australian brands that containĀ active ingredientsĀ known to prevent and reduce plaque and tartar. Working with industry experts, Bell & Bone has includedĀ Sodium Tripolyphosphate and Zinc SulphateĀ in their range of dental sticks. These ingredients will activate when your dog chews on theirĀ dental stickĀ to provide them with optimal oral care.

Are dental sticks for dogs good?

Bell & Bone Dental SticksĀ are quiteĀ different to most other brands in the market.Ā Where they often include grains and fillers, preservatives, unnatural colours and flavours, sugar and salt... Bell & Bone makes sure they have nothing of the sort included in their formula.

Besides differentiating from other brands by includingĀ active ingredientsĀ known to prevent and reduceĀ plaque and tartar, Bell & Bone Dental Sticks are also healthy and good for dogs. They have a protein first ingredient likeĀ Kangaroo,Ā Salmon,Ā Chicken,Ā DuckĀ andĀ LambĀ and are grain, filler, sugar and nasty free.

Bell & Bone Dental Sticks also include Mint and Parsley for fresher breath and a range of superfoods with naturalĀ oral healthĀ benefits for your dog. Manuka Honey acts as an anti-bacterial to help fight gum disease, Activated Charcoal is known to help whiten teeth and freshen breath, Seaweed can prevent and reduce plaque naturally and so on.

Bell & Bone Dental Sticks are full of natural vitamins and minerals such as protein, magnesium, iron, iodine, and omega-3 fatty acids. There are also 3Ā hypoallergenic flavoursĀ for allergies and sensitive tummies ā€“Ā Kangaroo,Ā SalmonĀ andĀ Duck.

We recommend reading the ingredient list before choosing your brand ofĀ dental sticks.

Are dental sticks as good as brushing?

We recommend brushing your dogā€™s teeth daily as it is still the best thing you can do for your dogā€™sdental health. However, we understand that this is a challenge; therefore, dental sticksare a great replacement. They provide similardental health benefitsā€” please note that not all dental sticks do this, but Bell & Bone does due to theactive ingredients.

Are dog dental sticks worth it?

Absolutely. Just like what was mentioned above, a simple bacteria and food leftover buildup on our dogsā€™ teeth could result in a severe dental disease; but whatā€™s more alarming is that this isnā€™t the worst-case scenario. Once the bacteria underneath the gums have penetrated the bloodstream, the bacteria could spread into the dogā€™s internal organs, just like the heart, lungs, liver, pancreas, and kidneys. This would not only cost you a fortune penny-wise, but it could even cost you the life of your beloved dog. In this matter, giving your dog the properdental care, just like buying him adental stickis definitely worth it.

Can puppies eat dental sticks?

We recommend giving your pupĀ Bell & Bone Dental SticksĀ from 6 months and older. The reason being is purely as ourĀ dental sticksĀ are chewy and may pull out puppy teeth prematurely. TheĀ ingredientĀ list is perfect for any age dog.Ā

Once your pup is 6 months or puppy teeth have fallen out, we recommend daily care for optimal results.

Do you have puppy dental sticks?

AsĀ Bell & Bone Dental SticksĀ are chewy, they may pull out puppy teeth prematurely which is why weĀ recommendĀ giving them to your dog from 6 months and older. If you are however looking for something for your biting pup to chew on, we highly recommend ourĀ Bell & Bone Collagen Sticks for Puppies and Small Dogs. These sticks in comparison are harder and therefore wonā€™t pull out teeth. They are full of nutrients that are perfect for puppies and will keep them occupied when looking for something to chew on.
